Australasian grebe

This winter in Sydney has been long and cold, but a few sunny days still fell on the weekend and I managed to get out and about to see how the other critters spent their winter days.

In Bicentennial park things were quiet. Stilts stayed in the shallows far from the shore together with dotterels, pelicans and black swans.

A single Australasian grebe, however, was happy to stay close to shore fishing next to the drain that was pumping rain water into the lake.

The stream of incoming water must’ve been nutrient-rich, as it kept the grebe occupied for at least an hour.
