Having lived and worked in China and Thailand, I have travelled extensively in Asia. And I returned to the continent several times in search of encounters with wild cats and other animals.
From the forests and wetlands of Thailand to the high-altitude environments of the Tibetan Plateau, wildlife in Asia is shaped by strong climatic and geographic contrasts. In Borneo, ancient rainforests support orangutans, clouded leopards, and a remarkable diversity of birdlife, while Sri Lanka is known for its concentration of large mammals, including leopards and elephants. Further east, the islands of the Philippines add another dimension to the region’s biodiversity, with high levels of endemism and rich marine ecosystems.
