Ko Jum is a small island in South Thailand in the Andaman Sea, lying close to Ko Lanta Island that is a National Park. I have spent the entire month of June in 2003 on Ko Jum. It was not well known to the tourist market and for most of the month there were no more than 5 foreigners on the island including me.
The island did not have many mammals – the only ones I could actually spot were Tree Squirrels. Birds were naturally more abundant, the most interesting being White-bellied Sea Eagle and Brahmini Kite. The most interesting lizard I came across was the Common Gliding lizard. Aquatic wildlife included Hermit Crabs and some larger crabs as well as a lot of snails that the guest house cook used to collect on the beach and then serve for dinner.
