Tucked away from the world on an island just south of the Australian mainland, Tasmania is a place of captivating natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and scrumptious food.
The island state is home to 19 national parks, many of them listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Almost a third of Tasmania falls within protected areas. These parks preserve diverse environments, from dramatic sea caves and stunning beaches to the magical mossy temperate rainforest and deep underground caves. There are over 2,000 walking trails on the island, including the 60 Great Short Walks.
Tassie also has some outstanding wildlife-watching opportunities. You can see wombats and kangaroos on Maria Island, Tasmanian devils and quolls at Mountain Valley, platypus in the Tasmanian Arboretum, Echidnas at Cradle Mountain, and albino wallabies on Bruny Island.
